The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has renovated and commissioned Christ Assembly Nursery and Primary School in Olodi Apapa, Lagos, reaffirming its commitment to education and community development through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

Located in Araromi, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, the once-decrepit school has been given a new lease of life, courtesy of the Tin Can Island Port Command in collaboration with the NCS Headquarters.

At the official commissioning ceremony, the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, emphasized the transformative power of education. Addressing the pupils, he said, “Education is power. I started just like you, and with God’s help and the guidance of education, I became who I am today.”

The CGC announced that the NCS has formally adopted the school and will ensure its continued upkeep. He pledged ongoing support for education, healthcare, and youth development in the area.

As part of its broader CSR agenda, the NCS targets the distribution of school kits to 50,000 pupils nationwide by 2025, having already supported over 12,000, including 5,000 in Lagos. During the ceremony, 2,000 students received educational materials.

CGC Adeniyi also revealed plans to enhance local sports infrastructure with the development of the Marakana Mini Stadium in Ajegunle.

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Esther Ogunfuyi, expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that the renovation symbolised more than physical improvement—it represented hope and belief in the pupils’ future.

The event drew several dignitaries, including the Olu Iwa of Apapa Kingdom, Oba Moroof Oyekunle Oluwa; Hon. Kalejaiye Adeboye Paul, Federal Representative for Ajeromi/Ifelodun Constituency; Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Tolani Ali-Balogun; outgoing Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA Chairman, Fatai Ayoola; and Educational Secretary, Barr. Remi-Williams Abiola, all of whom lauded Customs for its impactful gesture.

Tin Can Island Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, thanked maritime stakeholders and community members for their support, noting their contributions were instrumental in the success of the project.
