The Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recorded a landmark revenue collection of ₦16.4 billion in a single day, a feat attributed to the deployment of the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), popularly known as Bodogwu.

According to a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs Oscar Ivara, the revenue was collected on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.

Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, described the achievement as a testament to the efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness of the B’odogwu system in streamlining port operations.

Onyeka explained that the system has enhanced access to payment platforms and real-time cargo clearance processes for licensed Customs agents and stakeholders, eliminating unnecessary delays and administrative bottlenecks.

“The Bodogwu system has integrated all critical elements of port and Customs operations under a single digital interface, enabling faster processing, accurate valuation, and improved monitoring of cargo activities,” he said. “This has created a predictable and efficient operational environment that aligns with Nigeria’s economic objectives.”

The Customs boss stressed that the record-breaking figure was not just about revenue but also about the transformative role of technology in modernizing port operations.

He credited the Command’s success to collaboration with terminal operators, shipping companies, licensed Customs agents, and regulatory agencies, noting that such synergy has made cargo clearance more seamless, compliant, and business-friendly.

Onyeka further assured that the Command would remain committed to enhancing trade facilitation, safeguarding government revenue, and supporting port users in achieving timely and cost-effective cargo clearance.
